HSRC Respiratory Care Student Scholarship Award

Dear Second Year KCC Respiratory Therapy Student,

On behalf of the Hawaii Society for Respiratory Care’s Board of Directors, I would like to invite you to apply for one of two HSRC Respiratory Care Student Scholarship Awards.  The amount of each award is $2000 this year.

For more than 20 years, the HSRC has provided these cash awards to assist students enrolled in their second year of study in the Respiratory Therapy Program at Kapi’olani Community College.

• Applicant’s Confirmation of Community Service
• Applicant’s Performance Evaluation by Preceptor

The deadline for receipt of all the materials that comprise your application is September 15, 2026.  Please read over each form carefully.  Point out the deadline to your community service organization supervisor and preceptors when you ask for their assistance.  Your responsibility will be the application form, transcript/printout of GPA and the 4 questions.

The awards will be presented at the 53^rd Annual Respiratory Care Conference in September.

Purpose:

To provide a $2000 cash award to assist 2^nd year Kapi’olani Community College (KCC) Respiratory Therapy students in attaining their career objectives in Respiratory Care. Interested students who meet candidate criteria may apply to the Hawaii Society for Respiratory Care Board of Directors.  The two winning applicants will be announced at the 53^rd Annual Hawaii State Respiratory Care Conference in September.

Candidate Criteria:

• Currently enrolled in their second year of study in Respiratory Therapy Program at KCC
• Possess a 3.0 or greater GPA (in the respiratory core courses)
• Is a student member of the AARC and thereby the HSRC

Documentation requirements

• Candidate submits HSRC RC Student Scholarship Award Application
  1. Candidate provides transcript/printout of GPA (for core respiratory classes from the last semester & cumulative GPA)
  2. Identifies the 2 preceptors who have been asked to evaluate student performance.
  3. Identifies the community service supervisor who has been asked to provide info.
  4. Emails completed forms & responses to hawaiircps@gmail.com or submits completed forms & responses using the form below by September 15, 2026.
• Candidate responds to all 4 of the following questions. Responses are to be typed, single spaced, using #12 font and limited to 1 to 2 succinct paragraphs for each question.
  1. How do you intend to use the cash award to pursue your career objectives?
  2. What has been your most profound experience to date in the learning and practice of respiratory care?
  3. What does it mean to you to be a Respiratory Care Practitioner?
  4. What are your plans following graduation?
• Two preceptors of the candidate’s choice complete a Performance Evaluation that inquires about the student’s knowledge, clinical proficiency, behavioral and communication skills. The evaluation forms must be submitted directly from the preceptor to hawaiircps@gmail.com. 
• Acknowledgement of Community Service. Description of work, hours given and student performance by the organization’s supervisor.

All required documentation must be postmarked by September 15, 2026 for consideration.
